Bad Girl Good Girl: A Music Review

The first time I saw this group is in KBS World where  I thought one of the singers is wearing a pink wig, while singing.. and dancing… provocatively. The first word that pops into my head was “INTERESTING”. I didn’t mind it at first since I really thought that she was wearing a wig.

A couple of weeks later I saw their music video and I confirmed that her hair is really dyed to baby pink. I call it Chibiusa pink like in the anime Sailor Moon, all she needs is the Chibiusa trademark buns and she can play as Little Lady in the live action.

But I digress.

After watching their music video, I researched like mad about them, especially the pink haired singer. Well, according to the Wikipedia, the name of their group is miss A and they just debuted last July. The group consists of Fei (Chinese), Jia (Chinese), Min (Korean) and Suzy (Korean).

Jia, Suzy, Min, Fei

If you noticed, they are not all Korean and it was the first time that I got interested in a “mixed” pop group. Honestly, I didn’t notice that some of them are Chinese — maybe I got distracted with Jia’s hair. Ahahaha.

Hearing the single gave me mixed thoughts about their singing prowess. So I consulted YouTube for their live debut in Music Bank and concluded that I didn’t really liked Min’s voice. But, I am not passing judgment as of yet since it might be because of the microphone she was using. Fei’s singing isn’t that great either but Jia and Suzy is passable, in my humble opinion.

In the video, you will hear that it’s their first time of performing as they can’t regulate their breath that well yet, but I believe it can be learned eventually.

The song in itself if very catchy, makes you want to dance with them while they sing it. The lyrics is really designed for females who covers herself with a mask for the outside world to see and when somebody unmasked her, they will see her true feelings. Very poetic, if I say so myself:

On the outside, I’m a Bad Girl.
On the inside, I’m a Good Girl.
You don’t even know me well, you only look at me from the outside.
I find your gaze to be funny because you see me as a pitiful girl.

When I dance, I’m a Bad Girl.
When I love, I’m a Good Girl.
When you watch me dance, you become mesmerized, but are you done after you watch?
I find your hypocrisy to be funny because you point at me.

Their dance skills are amazing and based on their interview, all of them attended dance school one way or the other. They don’t do any cutey-cutey dance moves, just pure unadulterated dancing with a lot of provocative movements.

I am going to watch out for this girls as they might replace B.E.G. in my life BUT, they must prove to me that they are more than just dancers who can sing occasionally. Here’s their MV of their latest single, Bad Girl Good Girl:

I am not surprised that K-Pop is in the mainstream since they really train their artists before they do any performance. While some singers here doesn’t really know how to sing but have cute faces.

Speaking of Japanese artists, there are a lot of them disbanding or on hiatus. It’s sad really but that’s reality.

I’m still into J-Pop and J-Rock since it’s my first love. Other artists will take a back seat when Ayumi Hamasaki releases a new album. :P

  2. ako gusto ko si Gackt B-)…

and may gusto din pala ko Korean artist. si Boa. haha

  3. Sese says:

nuuuu don’t leave B.E.G but yeah miss A is hot and I wanna cosplay the girl in pink hair :3

    • angstnomiko says:

Yeah they’re hot. I hope their singing improves. If not, I might just view them as a group who can dance.

But no, I’m still a B.E.G. fan. Speaking of which, do they single or album to be released?

  4. Sese says:

They dont have a new album out yet. They’re busy promoting Narsha atm

I’d been wondering about this girl group since I’ve been seeing pics of them floating around tumblr. Although the pink haired girl is really striking, I can’t say I dig their music.

Nice to finally be able put a name to the face though. Thanks, Jewel. :D
